Prayer for Today, Saturday, February 26

Great Spirit of Love,

Life is a journey and You are our guide. The road is generally easy, yet there are times when our way is difficult. O God, You are both our companion and our destination. Forgive us when we take short cuts. Forgive us, Gracious God, when we create easy detours to avoid the rough spots and to meet our own desires. May we trust in You, O Lord. We pray You will take us by the hand and lead us. In Jesus name, AMEN.

Don Johnson is leading this evening’s Saturday 5:30 p.m. Service of Communion and tomorrow’s 8:00 a.m. Chapel Service. The youth are leading a combined Sunday 10:15 service of worship in the sanctuary. Please honor God as you participate in worship this weekend.

Please pray for the Administrative Committee of our denomination as they bring their business to a close this morning and for the General Board that convenes this afternoon.

The scripture for today is Matthew 13:18-23:
“Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
