Prayer for Today, Tuesday, March 8

Creator of Life and Beauty,

Today is a day of rejoicing. Christians around the world are singing and dancing because tomorrow the season of Lent begins and the mood shifts to introspection and repentance. Even as our attitude changes, help us to keep that spark of celebration in our hearts, for there is much to celebrate. Your grace abounds and we give You thanks. We know, O God, that each Sunday of Lent is a day of resurrection and rejoicing. During the forty days of Lent we pray You will walk with us, Loving God, as we walk with Jesus on his journey toward the cross. This we pray in His name, AMEN.

There is a Bible study at noon today. Agape (a women’s group) and Quilt Central meet this evening.

Our journey through Lent begins tomorrow. You are welcome to join me at 7:00 a.m. in the chapel for Morning Prayers. We will have an Ash Wednesday service at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel.

Our scripture reading for today is Matthew 13:44:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
