Prayer for Today, Friday, May 20

O Divine Presence,

We believe, forgive our unbelief. There are times when we are unable to reconcile our understanding that You are a loving and gracious God in the midst of the horror and tragedies of life. Natural disasters, crippling disease, the death of those still young. . .none of it makes sense to us. In the midst of the doubt and the pain we hear, continually, the words of the lamenting psalmist, “But still will I trust in You”. Help us to realize, Loving God, that You don’t cause these things to happen, but You walk with us through the experiences. May we know that our tears and pain cause tears to stream down Your face. In the depths, in the sorrow, in the grief, and in the pain, You are there. You surround us with Your everlasting arms and You empower new life to rise from of the ashes. We trust in You. AMEN.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Austin Box. Austin spent his younger years at Central Christian Church.

Judie Stocks is in the hospital.

Please offer special prayers for Anita Townley. She is getting weaker every day.

Offer special prayers for those children, youth and teachers who are already out of school and those whose last day is today.

The scripture for today is Matthew 23:37-39:
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you, desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
