Prayer for Today, Thursday, June 2

O God Who Dwells With Us,

We humbly come to You in prayer, thanking You for our blessings. In the haste of daily living we often fail to give You thanks for each breath, for each grace-filled moment, and for depth you provide in human relationships. Forgive us, we pray. May this day be a new day in our relationship with You. May we open our eyes to Your Presence and see You at work in the world and in our lives. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

This morning I will attend Eric Koegel’s funeral at the First Christian Church in Edmond. May God surround his family with comfort and peace.

Please continue to pray for the family of Abe Preston. His service is tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.

Jane Johnson has asked for prayers for her cousin. He is likely a candidate for a heart transplant.

Jana Davis has asked for continued prayers for her mother. She will be moving to her permanent residence at the Commons.

I received the following email from Scott Linton about his mother, Betty:
I wanted to get you folks a note and give you an update on mom. She is currently at Bickford Place in Overland Park, KS and is in their memory care wing called Mary B’s. last Oct mom had a stroke that has left her without control on her right side. Since then she has had to pretty much have assistance with all daily activities due to being confined to a wheel chair.
The nurses there encouraged me to get Hospice care for her in Feb to help her be more comfortable which they have. She still has a smile and kisses for everyone and her attitude is as positive as ever. However her condition is becoming more frail and the nurse at the facility has informed me as of today that mom will be going onto a softened diet as she is unable to swallow solids and liquids will need to be thickened. She has some congestion in her chest she is unable to expel and the nursing staff is fearing it will progress rather quickly.
Please keep mom in your thoughts and prayers as we wait for the Lord to call her home.
Regards, Scott Linton

We received nice TV coverage yesterday on Channel 4. Below is a link:

The scripture for today is Matthew 25:1-13:
Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him. ‘Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out. ‘But the wise replied, ‘No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves. ‘And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us. ‘But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you. ‘Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
