Most Amazing God,
We stand before You as Your children, seeking guidance, encouragement, and comfort. We live complicated lives in a complicated world. Current events are disturbing. The pace of our lives is hectic. It is difficult to maintain focus, regardless of the task. We can't control the news of the day O Lord, but we can reduce the complexity we choose to live in. Forgive us, Loving God, for being so malleable and influenced by a culture without focus. May we allow the Spirit of Christ to guide our lives. May we strip away the superfluous and place our trust in You as a child trusts a parent. You are our God. May we feel You embrace and know Your love. In Jesus' name we pray. AMEN.

Please pray for the Eck Family. The husband of David's great niece died yesterday. He was in his 20's.
Please continue to pray for Paul Spratt, Paula Redding's father. He had successful major surgery on Monday and is in Bass Hospital ICU.
Tonight is our first WWNF of the fall. The meal starts at 5:15 p.m. There are children, youth and adult activities from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The adult classes are a Bible Study on Jesus' miracles in the Fellowship Hall, ZUMBA in the multipurpose room, and an Unbinding the Gospel Study for Elders in the Parlor.
We will host an ecumenical 9-11 Prayer Vigil on Sunday, September 11th, at 7:00 p.m. This is the tenth anniversary of the attack. Please put this event on your calendar. The service will last from 45 minutes to one hour in the sanctuary.
The scripture for today is Ephesians 2:1-10:
You were dead through the trespasses and sins 2in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. 3All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else.
4But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us 5even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— 9not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, August 30
O Lord,
Sometimes we pray out of habit. Sometimes we pray out of necessity. There are times when life seems like a joyful prayer and there are times when life is a trial and we are filled with doubts. Then prayers are difficult, if not impossible to utter. Forgive us, O Lord, when we turn from You. Help us to realize Your love abounds, regardless of our circumstance or receptiveness. We pray You will cover us with Your protection and grace. All this we ask in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Larry Richey’s graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Enid Cemetery. Our wonderful servants will prepare a meal for Loretta and the family after the service. Please keep them in your prayers.
WWNF begins TOMORROW EVENING.
The scripture for today is Ephesians 1:15-23:
I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Grace and peace,

Prayer for Today, Monday, August 29
God of Life,
Life is full of successes and failures in relationships, business, academics, and organizations. Often we fear failure so much we fail to take risks and “leaps of faith”. Thank You, Loving God, for those times when we have shown restraint in making risky decisions, but also forgive us, we pray, when our fear of failure blocks creative and hopeful possibilities which are outside the norm. In all things we are called to trust in You. Abram was called by You to leave his home and venture into the unknown. Jesus called James and John to leave their profession and family to follow and trust in him. Speak to us, Dear God. Call us to use our gifts and talents for Your glory, even when there is risk. We pray this prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Please pray for the family of Larry Richey. Larry has been in a coma for almost two years and died Saturday at a hospital in Muskogee. His graveside service will be later this week.
Please pray for Paul Spratt, Paula Redding’s father. He will have very serious surgery this afternoon at Bass.
Please continue to pray for the family of Gary Johndrow. His funeral was Saturday.
Yesterday was a good day at Central. Becka Hamm joined the church in the R & R service. WELCOME BECKA! We also had a good crowd for the Fall Kick-Off.
WWNF begins this Wednesday with the meal at 5:15 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. adults can participate in the Bible Study or ZUMBA. Elders are invited to participate in the Unbinding the Gospel Study.
The scripture for today is Ephesians 1:3-14:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.

Prayer for Today, Sunday, August 28
God of Tender Mercies,
Scripture tells us Your history with humankind has always been one of invitation. You continue to seek us out and invite us into relationship with You. Your will is for us to be in relationship with You as You continually shower us with grace. Please forgive us, Loving God, when we turn away. Forgive us, we pray, when we look only inward and fail to turn into Your embrace. May today be a day of acceptance as we respond to Your love. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

Please pray for Paula Redding’s father, Paul Spratt, who is facing troubling surgery for a bowl obstruction. He is in Bass Hospital.
Dorothy Immel is in Greenbriar Assisted Living Room #98. Please pray for Dorotha as she goes through rehab after surgery to repair her broken leg. I just discovered yesterday that her fracture was a compound fracture, but she is in good spirits.
Two weeks from today is September 11th, the tenth anniversary of the attack. We will host an ecumenical September 11th Prayer Vigil for the community at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Please put that date and time on your calendar.
Today is Fall Kick-Off. Wear your school colors and stay for the “tailgate” luncheon.
We are entering Week 40 of our daily scripture readings. The scripture for today is Ephesians 1:1-2:
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus and are faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Psalm for this week is Psalm 53:
Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they commit abominable acts; there is no one who does good.
God looks down from heaven on humankind to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God.
They have all fallen away, they are all alike perverse; there is no one who does good, no, not one.
Have they no knowledge, those evildoers, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God?
There they shall be in great terror, in terror such as has not been. For God will scatter the bones of the ungodly; they will be put to shame, for God has rejected them.
O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Saturday, August 27
God of This Day,
Sometimes we see only what is right in front of us and often there is trouble, discontent and lack of hope. We Pray that You will forgive us for our short sightedness. We seek higher vistas, O Lord, where the beauty and power of Your grace can been seen and experienced. Empower us to move out of the tombs of our own making and into Your magnificent light where we feel You embrace. Help us to look beyond the present as we work for a world where there is love and peace. Clarify our perspective, Loving God, so that we might lose ourselves and all that is adverse in our lives as we seek to serve others. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

Please pray for those people who will be affected by hurricane Irene.
Tomorrow is Kick Off Sunday. Wear your school colors to church and plan to stay for the luncheon.
The scripture for today is Galatians 6:1-18:
My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if those who are nothing think they are something, they deceive themselves. All must test their own work; then that work, rather than their neighbor’s work, will become a cause for pride. For all must carry their own loads. Those who are taught the word must share in all good things with their teacher. Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if we do not give up. So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.
See what large letters I make when I am writing in my own hand! It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that try to compel you to be circumcised—only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. Even the circumcised do not themselves obey the law, but they want you to be circumcised so that they may boast about your flesh. May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything; but a new creation is everything! As for those who will follow this rule—peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From now on, let no one make trouble for me; for I carry the marks of Jesus branded on my body. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Friday, August 26
O Lord Our Lord,
We rejoice in this day for it is the day You have made. May our spirits be high and our outlook positive. You are present to us in all the events of life, large and small, and we give You thanks. Open our eyes, Dear God, so that we might truly appreciate the blessings that are all around us. Open our hearts, Divine Presence, so that we might see You in the faces of neighbors, friends and even strangers. We offer this prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Please pray for the family of John Yeager. His funeral is at 10:00 a.m. today at the Hunter Methodist Church.
Sunday will be a big day at Central. Everyone is invited to wear their school colors when they come to Sunday School and worship, then join the entire community at our Fall Kick-off Tailgate Party. We will have a lot of fun. You won’t want to miss it. . .and bring a friend with you.
The scripture for today is Galatians 5:22-26:
By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another.

Prayer for Today, Thursday, August 25
O Divine Presence,
Sometimes the trials and pressures of life immobilize us. There is so much to do and yet we don’t know where to start. We become numbed and inattentive as we sink into hopelessness. While this is not a frequent occurrence for us it is the norm for many in our midst. May we be strengthened and sustained by Your love when such feelings come over us. May we also open our eyes to the needs of others, being less critical and more compassionate. In all of life’s situations may we remember that we are often the unintended beneficiaries when we reach out to someone in need. Help us, O Lord, to understand that our tribulations are often reduced when we help someone else. May we experience Your blessing as we bless others. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

John Yeager died yesterday. Please pray for Velma and their family. His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Hunter Methodist Church.
Please offer prayers for the family of Gary Johndrow, Jeff’s father.
Dortha Immel, Austin Wade, Tim Simpson, Margaret Lambke, Gene Mason and Ruby Register are still hospitalized. Please pray for them.
Remember this Sunday is our Fall Kick Off with a Tailgate Party right after church in the Fellowship Hall. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served with all the “fixins”. Wear your favorite high school , college or pro team’s shirts or colors. We will have a lot of fun on Sunday as we look toward our fall programming.
An ecumenical group is meeting this afternoon to plan a community service of remembrance and prayer for 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, September 11. This is the tenth anniversary. Put that on your calendar now.
The scripture for today is Galatians 5:16-21:
Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Prayer for Today, Wednesday, August 24
Most Gracious God,
New projects and milestone events bring hope to our lives. We are encouraged and optimistic when we start something new like a job, a school year, an athletic season, and a new course of study, to name only a few. Many times we are fulfilled by the promise of these events, but many times we are disappointed. Forgive us, Loving God, when we place our hope and trust in the mundane and material. Life has it’s peaks and valleys. Forgive us for our shortsightedness. Help us to understand we are fulfilled and completed only through our relationship with You. You are constant when we waver. Our hope comes from You. May we be blessed today as we seek to bless others. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.

I received word yesterday evening that Jeff Johndrow’s father died. Please keep Jeff, Cindy and their family in your prayers. I will share more information when it becomes available.
WWNF activities begin ONE WEEK from today. Watch the Church Visitor and this email for additional information.
Enid schools begin today and they now join other area schools already in session. Please pray for our children, youth and their teachers. May this be a wonderful year.
Please note: we are in week 39 of our regular daily scripture readings. In three years we will have read the entire New Testament and the significant parts of the Old Testament.
The scripture for today is Galatians 5:2-15:
Listen! I, Paul, am telling you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you. Once again I testify to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obliged to obey the entire law. You who want to be justified by the law have cut yourselves off from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that counts is faith working through love. You were running well; who prevented you from obeying the truth? Such persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. A little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough. I am confident about you in the Lord that you will not think otherwise. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty. But my friends, why am I still being persecuted if I am still preaching circumcision? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. I wish those who unsettle you would castrate themselves!
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”If, however, you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, August 23
God of All Generations,
There are moments in our lives when we are filled with hope, enthusiasm and energy. There are other times when life is a struggle and we feel useless, lifeless and near despair. In our minds we know You are with us in the valleys as well as the mountain tops, but, when we are low, our hearts feel empty. In all things You are our God. Forgive us when we fail to see You, hear You, and feel You. Help us to realize You are the closest to us when we feel You are the farthest away. Please hug us today, Loving God. Hold us close so that we might be comforted by the rhythm of Your heart. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.

Dan Harris had successful out-patient surgery yesterday and is recovering at home. Please pray for Dan.
We have many “confidential” prayer requests. Please offer prayers for those who are hurting and with to remain anonymous.
The scripture for today is Galatians 4:21 – 5:1:
Tell me, you who desire to be subject to the law, will you not listen to the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and the other by a free woman. One, the child of the slave, was born according to the flesh; the other, the child of the free woman, was born through the promise. Now this is an allegory: these women are two covenants. One woman, in fact, is Hagar, from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery. Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the other woman corresponds to the Jerusalem above; she is free, and she is our mother. For it is written, “Rejoice, you childless one, you who bear no children, burst into song and shout, you who endure no birthpangs; for the children of the desolate woman are more numerous than the children of the one who is married.”Now you, my friends, are children of the promise, like Isaac. But just as at that time the child who was born according to the flesh persecuted the child who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also. But what does the scripture say? “Drive out the slave and her child; for the child of the slave will not share the inheritance with the child of the free woman.”So then, friends, we are children, not of the slave but of the free woman.
For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Monday, August 22
God of All Being
A new week is before us and we give You thanks for the opportunities for service and witness that it brings. We pray You will open our eyes to the beauty that surrounds us. Please heal our brokenness and make us one with You and with Christ Jesus our Lord. It is in His name we pray. AMEN.

I was mistaken about Tim Simpson being released from St. Mary’s hospital. He is now in rehab on the 5th floor. Please continue to pray for Tim.
We had two successful events at the church this weekend in addition to our regular Sunday activities. The Regional Youth Lock-in was a great success with around 150 youth and adults present. The Women’s Tea yesterday afternoon was also successful with a number of members and visitors attending.
Please pray for our church, our leaders, and staff. God is calling us to be faithful in all we do and to make disciples.
The scripture for today is Galatians 4:8-20:
Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to beings that by nature are not gods. Now, however, that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and beggarly elemental spirits? How can you want to be enslaved to them again? You are observing special days, and months, and seasons, and years. I am afraid that my work for you may have been wasted.
Friends, I beg you, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You have done me no wrong. You know that it was because of a physical infirmity that I first announced the gospel to you; though my condition put you to the test, you did not scorn or despise me, but welcomed me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. What has become of the good will you felt? For I testify that, had it been possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me. Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?
They make much of you, but for no good purpose; they want to exclude you, so that you may make much of them. It is good to be made much of for a good purpose at all times, and not only when I am present with you.
My little children, for whom I am again in the pain of childbirth until Christ is formed in you,I wish I were present with you now and could change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.

John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Sunday, August 21
Merciful God,
It seems the one constant in our culture is change and change is difficult. We age. Our children mature. Friends move away. Birth and death are real experiences. There is an ebb and flow in all of life. Nothing remains the same, except for Your love. Forgive us, Loving God, when we build our lives on the sand. May You be the solid rock that gives us stability. Help us to realize that change isn’t a threat to us when we trust in You. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.

Please pray for our hospitalized: Ruby Register, Austin Wade, Gene Mason, Margaret Lambke, and Dortha Immel. Ron Maphet was to have been released yesterday.
There is a Women’s Tea this afternoon in the Fellowship Hall. All women of the church are invited.
The Regional youth Lock-in hosted by our youth group was a great success. Approximately 150 people were in attendance.
Today we commission our board members and officers at the beginning of the 10:15 sanctuary service.
The scripture for today is Galatians 3:19-4:7:
Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring would come to whom the promise had been made; and it was ordained through angels by a mediator. Now a mediator involves more than one party; but God is one. Is the law then opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could make alive, then righteousness would indeed come through the law. But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.
My point is this: heirs, as long as they are minors, are no better than slaves, though they are the owners of all the property; but they remain under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father. So with us; while we were minors, we were enslaved to the elemental spirits of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.
The Psalm for the week is Psalm 53:

Prayer for Today, Saturday, August 20
Dear Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer,
We bring our prayers to You today. May our hearts be filled with hope, joy, and compassion. We think about those affected by the deadly famine in Somalia. So often the plight of others rarely touches our hearts. We, in the west, often take an “out of sight, out of mind” approach to human tragedy distant from us. Forgive us, we pray. We know the true heart of the Christian is revealed in our treatment of those in need. May we find ways to respond. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Kim Keithly Jones died yesterday. Please offer prayers for her family and large circle of friends.
Dortha Immel fell in her home Thursday evening and broke her leg. She had major surgery yesterday morning at Bass hospital. Please pray for Dortha. She will be in Bass for a few days and will likely go to Greenbriar for rehab.
Tim Simpson has been released from the hospital. Ruby Register, Austin Wade, Gene Mason, Margaret Lambke and Ron Maphet are still at St. Mary’s. Please pray for all our hospitalized.
Tomorrow we are commissioning all our Deacons, Board Members and Board Officers during the 10:15 a.m. sanctuary service. All current Board Members are encouraged to attend.
If you would like to help with famine relief in Somalia, bring a check to church and note in the memo line “Week of Compassion-Somalia”. We will promptly send those funds.
The scripture for today is Galatians 3:15-18:
Brothers and sisters, I give an example from daily life: once a person’s will has been ratified, no one adds to it or annuls it. Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring; it does not say, “And to offsprings,” as of many; but it says, “And to your offspring,” that is, to one person, who is Christ. My point is this: the law, which came four hundred thirty years later, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. For if the inheritance comes from the law, it no longer comes from the promise; but God granted it to Abraham through the promise.

Prayer for Today, Friday, August 19
Comforting Spirit,
We experience You in so many ways: in the kind word from a friend, in the gentle touch of a child, in the care of a community, in the embrace of a spouse, and in the power of Your unexplainable Presence. There is so much about Your love, O God, that is beyond our understanding, yet there are times when we feel Your embrace. We are then comforted and filled with hope. May we be a conduit, Loving Lord, extending Your comfort and peace to those in need. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

There is a huge youth event at the church this evening. Close to 150 youth and their sponsors will descend on Central for a Regional Lock-in. Some of the evening will be spent at the YMCA. May we be good hosts. May they have a marvelous time.
Please continue to pray for our hospitalized and for the two boys in OKC.
The scripture for today is Galatians 3:1-14:
You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly exhibited as crucified! The only thing I want to learn from you is this: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the law or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? Having started with the Spirit, are you now ending with the flesh? Did you experience so much for nothing? —if it really was for nothing. Well then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?
Just as Abraham “believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness, “so, you see, those who believe are the descendants of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, declared the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the Gentiles shall be blessed in you.”For this reason, those who believe are blessed with Abraham who believed. For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the things written in the book of the law.”Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law; for “The one who is righteous will live by faith.”But the law does not rest on faith; on the contrary, “Whoever does the works of the law will live by them.”Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”—in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Prayer for Today, Thursday, August 18
Loving God,
There is so much in life that is frightening. The change in family structures, stock market issues, economic concerns, crime, and on and on. Forgive us, O Lord , when our fear overwhelms us. Forgive us, O Lord, when we are numbed to the point of inaction. May our trust always be in You. May we follow the path of Jesus who taught us to care for others, even when our lives are unsettled. May our focus be outward, not inward. Help us, O Lord , to share the Good News, to trust in You, and to seek to be agents for good in an uncertain world. We cast our fears on You, O Lord. May we be open to Your forgiveness and love. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Our hospital list is the same: Tim Simpson, Ron Maphet, Margret Lambke, Austin Wade, Ruby Register and gene Mason. Please life them up in your prayers.
Please continue to pray for Reuben Justice.
We had a good and energetic cabinet meeting last night. We celebrate God’s movement in our discussion.
Bob Parks will be sharing a testimony/sermon in the 8:00 a.m. chapel service this Sunday. I will preached a shortened sermon. Bob is one who walks the talk and we are honored to have him share with us.
The scripture for today is Galatians 2:15-21:
We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law. But if, in our effort to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have been found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again the very things that I once tore down, then I demonstrate that I am a transgressor. For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Wednesday, August 17
Author of Love,
We yearn for simplicity, O Lord. It is a distant memory and we often sentimentalize the past. Forgive our backward yearnings, Dear God. Today is the day You have made and we are called to rejoice. Honest reflection tells us it is human nature to wish for earlier times because we often remember only the good, not the difficulties. Clutter and distractions, however, are a past and present reality. So may we seek to live in the moment, with less clutter and rejoicing in Your love and grace. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Please pray for all these members and friends.
The Chancel Choir rehearses at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
The Pastor’s Cabinet meets in Room 109 at 7:30 p.m.
The scripture for today is Galatians 2:11-14:
But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood self-condemned; for until certain people came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But after they came, he drew back and kept himself separate for fear of the circumcision faction. And the other Jews joined him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that they were not acting consistently with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, August 16
Faithful God,
Forgive us, O Lord, when we fail to laugh and have fun. Forgive us, Loving and Eternal Parent, when we take ourselves too seriously. You have given us the ability to cry and laugh. There are certainly appropriate times for both, but may we laugh today. Life can be full of so much joy. Even in the midst of trials and tribulations, may experience moments of glee. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Randy McWilliams is home in Drummond recovering from his surgery. Everything went well.
Tim Simpson is doing a little better.
Tim McAnally is scheduled for back surgery Thursday.
Reuben Justice, Sam and Sandra’s son, is still hospitalized in Illinois.
Please pray for all our sick and hospitalized.
The Pastor’s Cabinet will meet tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. in Room 109.
Today’s scripture is Galatians 2:1-10:
Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along with me. I went up in response to a revelation. Then I laid before them (though only in a private meeting with the acknowledged leaders) the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles, in order to make sure that I was not running, or had not run, in vain. But even Titus, who was with me, was not compelled to be circumcised, though he was a Greek. But because of false believers secretly brought in, who slipped in to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might enslave us—we did not submit to them even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might always remain with you. And from those who were supposed to be acknowledged leaders (what they actually were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality) —those leaders contributed nothing to me. On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel for the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel for the circumcised(for he who worked through Peter making him an apostle to the circumcised also worked through me in sending me to the Gentiles),and when James and Cephas and John, who were acknowledged pillars, recognized the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. They asked only one thing, that we remember the poor, which was actually what I was eager to do.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Monday, August 15
O Lord Our God,
It disturbs us when we are disappointed in others and when they disappoint us. Our actions, intentional and otherwise, affect others and certainly their actions affect us, yet You have created us as social beings. We need one another, in fact it is said that You, O Lord, are experienced in the depth of human relationships. Forgive our pettiness. May we constantly be guided by the scriptural mandate to “love one another”, to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. May we also be reminded of Jesus’ mandate to be more concerned about the “log in our own eye”, than by the “speck in our neighbor’s eye”. Relationship are difficult at times, yet they sustain us. Forgive us, we pray, when we are not kind and accepting. May we celebrate and give thanks for others. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

The scripture for today is Galatians 1:11-24:
For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. You have heard, no doubt, of my earlier life in Judaism. I was violently persecuting the church of God and was trying to destroy it. I advanced in Judaism beyond many among my people of the same age, for I was far more zealous for the traditions of my ancestors. But when God, who had set me apart before I was born and called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with any human being, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were already apostles before me, but I went away at once into Arabia, and afterwards I returned to Damascus. Then after three years I did go up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and stayed with him fifteen days; but I did not see any other apostle except James the Lord’s brother. In what I am writing to you, before God, I do not lie! Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia, and I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Judea that are in Christ; they only heard it said, “The one who formerly was persecuting us is now proclaiming the faith he once tried to destroy.”And they glorified God because of me.

Prayer for Today, Sunday, August 14
Ever Living God,
We approach You with humility, feeling unworthy. We know we sin and miss the mark. We know we usually choose our own path and we pray for forgiveness. Such a prayer seems so common that we wonder if it really has any meaning. Indeed, our unworthiness to receive Your grace overwhelms us. Touch our hearts, we pray. As we look at Jesus we see Your love. Help us to open our hearts to You so that we might be assured by the power of Your graced filled acceptance. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Today we will ordain our new Elders in the 10:15 sanctuary service. Please pray for these church leaders.
Today we will celebrate with Jeanette Heitfeld as she is installed as the Pastor at the First Christian Church in Okeene.
Tomorrow Randy McWilliams will have out-patient surgery in OKC.
Tim Simpson is still hospitalized. Please pray for Randy and Tim.
The scripture for today is Galatians 1:1-10:
Paul an apostle—sent neither by human commission nor from human authorities, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead—and all the members of God’s family who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are confusing you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let that one be accursed! As we have said before, so now I repeat, if anyone proclaims to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let that one be accursed!
Am I now seeking human approval, or God’s approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
The Psalm for the week is Psalm 113:
Praise the LORD! Praise, O servants of the LORD; praise the name of the LORD.
Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time on and forevermore.
From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the LORD is to be praised.
The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high,
who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.
He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the LORD!

God of Forgiveness and Understanding,
We seek the comfort and hope that comes from You. Despair invades our world. Doubt and fear are present. Uncertainty is a reality, yet in the midst of the darkest hours, You are there. When life seems empty, You are there. You forgive us, love us and call us by name. Your presence transforms the darkness into marvelous light, doubt into faith, despair into hope. Make us new creations in Christ, O Lord, so that we might share this amazing understanding with our fragmented world. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Friday, August 12
God of Eternal Promises,
You bring a melody to our hearts. May Your Spirit flow through us, causing us to sing joyfully of Your eternal presence. Life is a symphony and we each have our part to play. May our tunes be in harmony with Your eternal and majestic themes. May we listen for the amazing nuances that are present in our ensemble, where our music blends with the music of others to grandly praise You. We thank You for the notes and tempo of the universe. Bless us, O Lord, as we add our parts. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Please continue to pray for Tyler Zander and Brice Gannon, the boys hurt in the elevator accident. I have heard so many stories about their condition, some conflicting. The hard reality is they need our prayers, daily, even hourly.
June Frei is recovering from cuts when the windows were blown out at Golden Oaks during that terrible wind storm on Monday. Please pray for June and all those affected by the storm.
Please pray for Rueben Justice, son of Sam and Sandra Justice. He is hospitalized in Illinois.
Please pray for our teachers and students as they prepare for school. It is just around the corner.
Thank you for all the wonderful birthday wishes. I was overwhelmed. I don’t feel a day over 35, but now I can add 30 years to that number.
The scripture for today is Romans 16:17-23:
I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep an eye on those who cause dissensions and offenses, in opposition to the teaching that you have learned; avoid them. For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded. For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I want you to be wise in what is good and guileless in what is evil. The God of peace will shortly crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Timothy, my co-worker, greets you; so do Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my relatives. I Tertius, the writer of this letter, greet you in the Lord. Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus, greet you.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Thursday, August 11
O Great Benefactor,
The Apostle Paul says we are “joint heirs with Christ”. Our kinship with Jesus is hard to comprehend, yet we stand before You as beneficiaries. You bestow great gifts upon us, not gifts as the world interprets, but gifts of life, love, peace, hope and a place in eternity. We are unworthy to call Jesus our brother, yet He himself claims us as His own and said we would accomplish great things, even more than what he did. The responsibility is overwhelming. Please forgive us when we have feet of clay. May we stand boldly within the power of Your grace. May we follow Jesus’ example. May our influence lead others to a life transforming relationship with You. We pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

We celebrate our members willingness to help others. It happens all the time. The other day Meadows Point apartments had no power and it was lunch time. Residents couldn’t cook and the elevators didn’t work. Many people responded to make and deliver sandwiches to the residents. Our own Laurie Bushman, Brenna Bushman, Nicole Bushman and Conner Angleton were a part of the effort. WAY TO GO!
I received the following email from Laurie Bushman:
John, Please add my dad, Dee Jerome, to the prayer list the next couple of days. He has been having some chest pain and light-headedness when exercising, and swollen ankles. He will have a radiation(?) stress test on the treadmill Friday morning to see where the problem is, and go from there. Thanks! Laurie
Please pray for Dee Jerome.
I am still hearing wonderful reports from VBS. The ripples are moving outward.
The Centours are going to the OKC Art Museum today to see the “Passages” exhibit. Don Johnson is their bus driver. Please pray for a safe trip.
There is a NW Area Ministers meeting in Pond Creek this morning. A number of area pastors are meeting at Central to car (van) pool to Pond Creek.
The scripture for today is Romans 16:1-16:
I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church at Cenchreae,so that you may welcome her in the Lord as is fitting for the saints, and help her in whatever she may require from you, for she has been a benefactor of many and of myself as well. Greet Prisca and Aquila, who work with me in Christ Jesus, and who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Greet also the church in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who was the first convert in Asia for Christ. Greet Mary, who has worked very hard among you. Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives who were in prison with me; they are prominent among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord. Greet Urbanus, our co-worker in Christ, and my beloved Stachys.Greet Apelles, who is approved in Christ. Greet those who belong to the family of Aristobulus.Greet my relative Herodion. Greet those in the Lord who belong to the family of Narcissus. Greet those workers in the Lord, Tryphaena and Tryphosa. Greet the beloved Persis, who has worked hard in the Lord. Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord; and greet his mother—a mother to me also. Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers and sisters who are with them. Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore
AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Wednesday, August 10
Gracious God,
You love us to limits we cannot comprehend. Your righteousness is witnessed in Your passion for the sinner. We stand before You as people unworthy, yet Your grace flows over us. May our heats be opened and our lives changed. May we truly become new creations in Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Please pray for the family of L.V. Powell. His funeral is this morning at 10:00 a.m. at Ladusau-Evans.
We thank God for the rain. Hopefully we will be blessed with more.
As the summer is winding down and we are looking toward the fall, please pray for our church leaders and staff as they begin preparations for continuing and new ministries. May God bless us as we seek to be faithful to God.
The scripture for today is Romans 15:30-33:
I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in earnest prayer to God on my behalf, that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my ministry to Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company. The God of peace be with all of you. Amen.

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, August 9
O God,
Each new day brings opportunities for praise, thanksgiving and service to You. Often the regular routine dulls us to the majesty and awesome beauty of all that is around us. It is easy to take so much for granted. We thank You for shelter and food, for neighbors and friends, for gainful work and the security of retirement, for good health and good doctors, for family distant and present, for good memories, and for a hopeful future. Forgive us, O Lord, when we get in a rut and become overwhelmed by the sameness of life. Open our eyes that we might celebrate and rejoice in all that is good in our lives. We pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Tim Simpson had additional back surgery on Friday, but is still having a difficult time with headaches. They are doing further testing. Please pray for Tim, Leah and their family.
L.V. Powell’s funeral is 10:00 a.m. tomorrow at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The church is providing a meal for the family at approximately 11:45 a.m. Please pray for L.V.’s family and for the gracious servants of Central who share their love by caring for grieving families.
We are still basking in the glow of a wonderful VBS. Please continue to pray for the children, youth and adults who participated. May we continue to provide an environment where they can experience God’s love.
On a personal note: Carolyn and I are going to Perry today for the funeral of a longtime friend, Betty (Newton, Smith) Beasley. Please lift up her family in prayer. Carolyn grew up with her children and I did her first husband’s funeral in 1968. It was one of my first.
The scripture for today is Romans 15:14-29:
I myself feel confident about you, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct one another. Nevertheless on some points I have written to you rather boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by God to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
In Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to boast of my work for God. For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to win obedience from the Gentiles, by word and deed, by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and as far around as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the good news of Christ. Thus I make it my ambition to proclaim the good news, not where Christ has already been named, so that I do not build on someone else’s foundation, but as it is written, “Those who have never been told of him shall see, and those who have never heard of him shall understand.”
This is the reason that I have so often been hindered from coming to you. But now, with no further place for me in these regions, I desire, as I have for many years, to come to you when I go to Spain. For I do hope to see you on my journey and to be sent on by you, once I have enjoyed your company for a little while. At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem in a ministry to the saints; for Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to share their resources with the poor among the saints at Jerusalem. They were pleased to do this, and indeed they owe it to them; for if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material things. So, when I have completed this, and have delivered to them what has been collected, I will set out by way of you to Spain; and I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Monday, August 8
O God of Life,
We talk often of Your love and seldom about Your judgment. While we believe there is more grace in You than sin in us we still understand there are consequences to our behavior. Today’s culture emphasizes certain sins but misses so much of what Jesus taught. His statements about judgment centered around attitudes and actions of the heart, care for the least among us, and issues related to wealth and power. It is easy to point our finger at the adulterer or one with a certain sexual orientation, but it is hard to sell all we have, give to the poor and follow him. In the final analysis we realize we are all sinners before You, O God. We beg for forgiveness and seek to sin no more, knowing that our nature betrays our intentions. In the face of Your judgment we pray for Your mercy and grace to abound. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

L.V. Powell died yesterday morning. Please pray for Marianna, their sons, and their family. His funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Ladusau-Evans Chapel.
Lynn Miller’s brother, Dr. Jim Bougaerts, passed out and stopped breathing, He is hospitalized and in an induced coma. Latest word is that he is improving. They are still diagnosing the cause. Please pray for him.
We had a great VBS / Bridge Sunday yesterday. Thanks to all who helped.
We are still collecting fans and money. We have delivered 105 fans so far and will deliver another 10 or so today. These temperatures are unbearable and there are many in need.
The scripture for today is Romans 15:7-13:
Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of the truth of God in order that he might confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will confess you among the Gentiles, and sing praises to your name”;and again he says, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people”;and again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him”;and again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse shall come, the one who rises to rule the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles shall hope.”
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Sunday, August 7
O Lord Our Lord,
Life is filled with beauty and we stand in awe. The majesty of creation: the mountains and streams, the fields and woods, the star filled skies, all invite us into an attitude of praise and thanksgiving. The wonder in a child’s face, the hope of parenthood, the dreams of youth, and the wisdom of the elderly also invite us to celebrate the works of Your hands. While You are a great mystery, we experience You in all that is. Thank You, O Lord, for eyes to see, minds to interpret, and hearts to love. In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.

Please continue to pray for Tyler Zander and Bryce Gannon.
Lift up L.V. Powell and his family. They need our prayers.
Today is V.B.S. Sunday. The 10:15 a.m. service will be a combined service as we celebrate Bridge Sunday (Promotion) and the “Shake It Up” Bible School. You won’t want to miss it.
Greet someone you don’t know very well at church today.
The scripture for today is Romans 15:1-6:
We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Each of us must please our neighbor for the good purpose of building up the neighbor. For Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.
May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Psalm for this week is Psalm 117:
Praise the LORD, all you nations! Extol him, all you peoples!
For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!

Prayer for Today, Saturday, August 6
O Gracious God,
Our prayer today is for those two boys, Tyler Zander and Bryce Gannon, who were severely injured in the grain elevator in Kremlin. We are stunned, shocked and overwhelmed with concern. Please be with them as they undergo multiple surgeries. Please be with the surgeons, doctors and nurses as they treat and care for these young men. Surround their families, O God, with your love and sustaining presence. Comfort, we pray, the large cadre of their friends, classmates and neighbors. May all be buoyed by our faithful prayers and the faithful prayers of others. May the spirit of Your son, Jesus the Christ who is the Great Physician, be present bringing healing and wholeness in the midst of tragedy. AMEN.

The scripture for today is Romans 14:13-23:
Let us therefore no longer pass judgment on one another, but resolve instead never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of another. I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. If your brother or sister is being injured by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not let what you eat cause the ruin of one for whom Christ died. So do not let your good be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. The one who thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and has human approval. Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for you to make others fall by what you eat; it is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that makes your brother or sister stumble. The faith that you have, have as your own conviction before God. Blessed are those who have no reason to condemn themselves because of what they approve. But those who have doubts are condemned if they eat, because they do not act from faith; for whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Friday, August 5
Loving God,
We open our hearts to You this day. May the light and power of Your love flow over us, in us, and through us. We give You thanks for our many blessings and we pray for the wisdom and will to reach out to others, sharing Your Grace and seeking to meet their needs as our brothers and sisters. Forgive us, Dear God, when we forget we are all members of the human family. Forgive us, we pray, when we focus only on ourselves and those like us. Open us, O Lord, so that we might embrace all those created in Your image. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

L.V. Powell is failing rapidly. Please pray for Marianna and their family as they surround L.V. with their love.
Tim Simpson will have another surgery on his back this morning to repair the “leak” from the previous surgery.
Elbert Wheeler is moving to the Methodist Home Skilled Nursing Unit today.
Please pray for Tim and Elbert.
The last session of VBS is this evening. It has been a very good event. Sunday we will celebrate VBS in a combined 10:15 a.m. service in the sanctuary.
Everyone is encouraged to volunteer for a committee/task group. The forms were in the Church Visitor and will be in the bulletin these next two Sundays. I have also attached a .pdf version. Please sign up and bring to the church office. Thanks.
The scripture for today is Romans 14:1-12:
Welcome those who are weak in faith, but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions. Some believe in eating anything, while the weak eat only vegetables. Those who eat must not despise those who abstain, and those who abstain must not pass judgment on those who eat; for God has welcomed them. Who are you to pass judgment on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand. Some judge one day to be better than another, while others judge all days to be alike. Let all be fully convinced in their own minds. Those who observe the day, observe it in honor of the Lord. Also those who eat, eat in honor of the Lord, since they give thanks to God; while those who abstain, abstain in honor of the Lord and give thanks to God. We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.”So then, each of us will be accountable to God.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Thursday, August 4
O God,
There is an old Gospel song entitled “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”. The Psalmist tell us, “God is our refuge and our strength”. These are powerful metaphors, O Lord, that communicate an understanding of Your love and care for us. You watch over us in ways we cannot fathom. Our trust in You is weakened because the world lures us to value independence and personal strength. Please forgive us, God. You indeed are our refuge and strength. May we feel your embrace. May we trust in You as the solid rock that is the foundation of our existence. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

VSB is proceeding wonderfully. Sunday is VBS Sunday. The 8:00 a.m. chapel service will meet as usual. There is a VBS All-Church Brunch at 9:30 a.m. and the VBS/Bridge Sunday Worship will be a combined service at 10:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Be sensitive to guests and visitors this Sunday. Please make them feel welcome.
I received the following email from David Dell:
John, This is an announcement for your daily EMAIL. Next Tuesday, August the 8th, our neighbor Larry Morris is having Heart Surgery at OU Medical Hospital. Thank You.
Please pray for Larry Morris.
Tim Simpson is having complications from his back surgery and is still hospitalized at St. Mary’s. Please pray for Tim.
I received the following email from Scott Chuda, the young Navy pilot who trained at Vance and was very faithful in our 8:00 a.m. Chapel Service.
Hey Pastor,
I wanted to thank you for all of the daily prayers. It’s a great way to start my day. I hope everything is going great in Enid and the everyone in the church is doing well. I attached some photos from last weekend. I was on the USS Eisenhower for my first carrier quals. It was awesome.
Thanks again for the prayers and you all have a special place in my heart.
Take care,
Scott Chuda
Please pray for Scott and all our military men and women. I have attached his pictures for your enjoyment. Scott is on the left, now sporting a mustache.
The scripture for today is Romans 13:11-14:
Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armour of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in revelling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarrelling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Wednesday, August 3
O Loving God,
We talk of forgiveness, yet, often, our actions betray our words. It is hard to forgive others when we have been hurt, offended, accosted or ignored. We say to ourselves that we forgive, but it is so difficult. We are reminded of the father looking down the road, hoping to see his prodigal son return. One day he sees him and the father runs to embrace him, even though the son has violated religious and family codes. The father goes out to him and also to the resentful older brother, forgiving them both. We know, Loving God, that this is a story told by Jesus that is about You. The first hearers would think the father foolish, but it is Your foolish love and forgiveness that sustains us and we give You thanks. May we embody that spirit as we deal with those around us. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.

Bible School is going well. Please pray for the next three sessions and for VBS Sunday.
The funeral for Neiva Munkres is today at 2:00 p.m. Please pray for her family.
John Wheeler and I delivered fans yesterday to the Salvation Army. The total to date is 105 fans and more money is still coming in. Thank you for your wonderful generosity. We will continue receiving money for a while longer and convert the dollars to fans as soon as we can. We also had a nice article in the Enid News and Eagle yesterday.
The scripture for today is Romans 13:8-10:
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, August 2
O God,
We thank You for the children in our midst. They are a blessing to us and they provide us with wonderful opportunities to become childlike with them: to be silly and happy and energetic and hopeful. Children trust. Children are awed by life and creation, a trait often dulled by age. Forgive us, O Lord, for forgetting the child that lives within us. May we become more loving, more trusting of You, and more faithful. . .like a child. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.

VBS is underway. We had a number of children and adults come to the first night. Plan to attend this evening. The activities start with a light meal at 5:15 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m.
Neiva Munkres’ funeral is tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel. Please pray for her son, Ned, and his family.
We have received enough money and fans to contribute over 100 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) fans to those in need through the Salvation Army. We should make our final delivery today. THANK YOU to all who participated. We doubled our goal.
The scripture for today is Romans 13:1-7:
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities; for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists authority resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but too bad. Do you wish to have no fear of the authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive its approval; for it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do what is wrong, you should be afraid, for the authority does not bear the sword in vain! It is the servant of God to execute wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be subject, not only because of wrath but also because of conscience. For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, busy with this very thing.
Pay to all what is due them—taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.

Prayer for Today, Monday, August 1
Author of Peace,
In the Book of Revelation (3:15-16) we read, “I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” O God we seek your forgiveness because we are lukewarm Christians. We are in desperate need of the burning fires of revival where a passion for You and the mission of Your church becomes palpable. Stir us, Loving God. Confront is in our passivity. Help us to realize we are the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. We are set apart and sent forth to make disciples. May your call and claim on our time, talent, energy and resources take priority in our lives so that we might be a movement for wholeness in a broken and fragmented world. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.

Bible School starts this evening. Please pray that hearts are touched and lives changed this week.
All 17 of our Mission Campers returned Friday, safe, sound and “fired up”. We are blessed by our youth. May we be a blessing to them.
Eleven years ago today Carolyn and I began this shared ministry with you. It is hard to believe it has been this long. May God continue to bless our work together.
The scripture for today is Romans 12:9-21:
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”No, “if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads.”Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
