Prayer for Today, Thursday, August 11

O Great Benefactor,

The Apostle Paul says we are “joint heirs with Christ”. Our kinship with Jesus is hard to comprehend, yet we stand before You as beneficiaries. You bestow great gifts upon us, not gifts as the world interprets, but gifts of life, love, peace, hope and a place in eternity. We are unworthy to call Jesus our brother, yet He himself claims us as His own and said we would accomplish great things, even more than what he did. The responsibility is overwhelming. Please forgive us when we have feet of clay. May we stand boldly within the power of Your grace. May we follow Jesus’ example. May our influence lead others to a life transforming relationship with You. We pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

We celebrate our members willingness to help others. It happens all the time. The other day Meadows Point apartments had no power and it was lunch time. Residents couldn’t cook and the elevators didn’t work. Many people responded to make and deliver sandwiches to the residents. Our own Laurie Bushman, Brenna Bushman, Nicole Bushman and Conner Angleton were a part of the effort. WAY TO GO!

I received the following email from Laurie Bushman:
John, Please add my dad, Dee Jerome, to the prayer list the next couple of days. He has been having some chest pain and light-headedness when exercising, and swollen ankles. He will have a radiation(?) stress test on the treadmill Friday morning to see where the problem is, and go from there. Thanks! Laurie

Please pray for Dee Jerome.

I am still hearing wonderful reports from VBS. The ripples are moving outward.

The Centours are going to the OKC Art Museum today to see the “Passages” exhibit. Don Johnson is their bus driver. Please pray for a safe trip.

There is a NW Area Ministers meeting in Pond Creek this morning. A number of area pastors are meeting at Central to car (van) pool to Pond Creek.

The scripture for today is Romans 16:1-16:

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church at Cenchreae,so that you may welcome her in the Lord as is fitting for the saints, and help her in whatever she may require from you, for she has been a benefactor of many and of myself as well. Greet Prisca and Aquila, who work with me in Christ Jesus, and who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Greet also the church in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who was the first convert in Asia for Christ. Greet Mary, who has worked very hard among you. Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives who were in prison with me; they are prominent among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord. Greet Urbanus, our co-worker in Christ, and my beloved Stachys.Greet Apelles, who is approved in Christ. Greet those who belong to the family of Aristobulus.Greet my relative Herodion. Greet those in the Lord who belong to the family of Narcissus. Greet those workers in the Lord, Tryphaena and Tryphosa. Greet the beloved Persis, who has worked hard in the Lord. Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord; and greet his mother—a mother to me also. Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers and sisters who are with them. Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
