God of Wonders,
Memory can be both a blessing and a curse. We relish the moments of joy, success, and love. We loath the recollection of times we sinned, experienced grief, and lived in darkness. Forgive us, Loving God, for the actions that cause us regret. Help us to understand, O Lord, that You are a God of grace. You forgive us when we earnestly repent and seek to live in relationship with You. Wipe away our painful memories and draw us into Your marvelous life giving, life transforming presence. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Please pray for Ruby Manahan. She fell and had to have surgery to repair a dislocated hip. Sandy is staying with her in St. Mary’s hospital.
Ruby Register, Judy Mason’s mother is under hospice care and not doing well. Please pray for Ruby and her family.
Please pray for Terry Jones as he undergoes more tests tomorrow and Merle Phillips as he prepares for surgery on Tuesday.
Today the Executive Committee meets in my office after the 10:15 services, the Centours have lunch in the Fellowship Hall, the acolytes for tonight’s 9/11 service will rehearse after the 10:15 services, FPU is at 3:00 p.m. in the Video Room, youth meet at their regular time, the Elders share a “pot luck” meal at 5:15 a.m., and we host the ecumenical “9/11 Prayer Vigil” at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Please pray for all of these activities and ministries.
The scripture for today is Jude 1:1-2:
Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, who are beloved in God the Father and kept safe for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance.
The Psalm for this week is Psalm 52:
Why do you boast, O mighty one, of mischief done against the godly? All day long
you are plotting destruction. Your tongue is like a sharp razor, you worker of treachery.
You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking the truth. Selah
You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue.
But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
The righteous will see, and fear, and will laugh at the evildoer, saying,
“See the one who would not take refuge in God, but trusted in abundant riches, and sought refuge in wealth!”
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.
I will thank you forever, because of what you have done. In the presence of the faithful I will proclaim your name, for it is good.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore
