Prayer for Today, Tuesday, September 13

O God, Our Heart’s Delight,

There is a depth and breadth to life that we often avoid. It is so much easier to live on the surface, where the solutions to life’s challenges can be put on bumper stickers and the answers to life’s questions can be easily parroted; where others tell us what to believe, where we define ourselves by what we are against, and where we elevate our own worth by diminishing the worth of others. Forgive us, O Lord, for choosing the easy path. Draw us into the depths, where the answers are difficult, where truth is uncompromising, and the search for meaning is arduous; where struggle is a reality, where faith is challenged, where our experience of You is all encompassing, and where love is real. This we pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Please pray for Gene Mason. He is in St. Mary’s hospital and underwent a procedure yesterday. Please also pray for his mother-in-law, Ruby Register, who is under hospice care and his wife, Judy, who is caring for both of them.

Please continue to pray for Ruby Manahan who is recovering from surgery and her daughter Sandy who is staying with her at St. Mary’s.

Merle Phillips is having surgery this morning, also at St. Mary’s. Please lift him up in your prayers.

ATTENTION MEN: Call Kandy this morning if you are planning to go to the NW Area Men’s meeting in Carmen on Thursday. The van will leave at 5:15 p.m.

The WWNF Meal tomorrow evening from 5:15 to 6:00 is being provided by Kids Central. BBQ pork sandwiches, chips, pickle, dessert and a drink. This is a fund raiser. Bring an appetite, enjoy the fellowship and help support Kids Central.

We are hosting the Men’s Walk to Emmaus beginning Thursday and going through Sunday evening. Please pray for this spiritual experience. We will have members serving as leaders and some coming as pilgrims.

The scripture for today is Jude 1:5-7: (Remember, we are reading through the New Testament and the major parts of the Old Testament in three years. We are in Week 42 of the first year).

Now I desire to remind you, though you are fully informed, that the Lord, who once for all saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their own position, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains in deepest darkness for the judgment of the great Day. Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which, in the same manner as they, indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
