Prayer for Today, Friday, October 14

O Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer,

May this day be a time of reflection and meditation. In our busy, fast-paced world we look past the beauty that is all about us. Help us, Loving God, to take “holy pauses”. May we stop what we are doing, take a deep breath, and look around at the wonder of creation. Slow us down, Lord, and enter our hearts. May we pause and prayerfully repeat the often spoken words: “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.” In Jesus name, AMEN.

Today is Day Nine of our Fall Prayer Vigil. We have had 14 different people come to the church to pray, some almost every day, some only once. Won’t you consider coming to the small prayer chapel by the offices to offer special prayers?  Remember: it is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday through November 19th. You will be blessed. Our church will be blessed.

Tomorrow we host “Crop for the Cure”, a scrapbooking event to raise money for “Susan G. Komen for the Cure”  The Fellowship Hall and loggia will be humming with activity. It is a great cause and the event raises a lot of money. Drop by the church and see all the activity.

Sunday there is a brief Elder’s Meeting at 11:30 a.m. AND a New Members and Friends Luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. It will be a good day.

Terry Jones has been released from the hospital. Please continue to pray for Birdene Schoonover and Gene Carlson.

The scripture for today is 2 Timothy 8-13:
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David—that is my gospel, 9for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. 10Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; 13if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
