Prayer for Today, Thursday, October 13

Redeeming God,

Jesus teaches us that You care for the poor, the oppressed, the “least of these”. We are all made in Your image and we all live under Your grace. Please forgive us, Loving God, when we set ourselves above and apart from others. Please forgive us, Spirit of Love, when we build walls to separate us from others and are condescending toward those who are different.  Please forgive us, Holy One, when we support systems that keep many down and elevate only a few. You are God of all. Jesus taught us to be good neighbors, to stop and help the wounded, hurt and abandoned. May we move out of our safe isolation, out of our comfort, and into the world You love. May we be the hands and feet of Jesus, bringing healing and wholeness where there is brokenness and despair. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Fig Newton had successful surgery yesterday and should be released from St. Mary’s hospital today.

Wanna Loo Tabeling, Maribel Moore’s sister has been released from Mercy Hospital in OKC and is in a living center in the area.

Remember to bring your “Gifts of the Heart” Health Kit items. The CWF is collecting these items to make Health Kits for church World Service to be used during times of disaster. Each kit contains 1 hand towel, 1 wash cloth, 1 bath sized bar of soap, 1 wide toothed comb, 1 tooth brush in original packaging, 6 Band-Aids, and 1 pair of nail clippers. There is a box outside the office where these items can be placed. Please support this wonderful CWF project.

The Scripture for Today is 2 Timothy 2:1-7:
You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus; 2and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well. 3Share in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No one serving in the army gets entangled in everyday affairs; the soldier’s aim is to please the enlisting officer. 5And in the case of an athlete, no one is crowned without competing according to the rules. 6It is the farmer who does the work who ought to have the first share of the crops. 7Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
