Prayer for Today, Monday, November 7

Mysterious God,

We cannot define You. You are unseen. The Book of Hebrews tells us faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It is by faith that we come to You, O Lord, and it is by faith that we believe. Please forgive our futile attempts to reduce You to theorems, equations, and logical processes. May our evidence of You be our experience of You. May our proof of Your existence be our trust in Your grace and forgiveness. May our picture of You be the image of Christ Jesus who showed the world who You were. We open our hearts to You this day. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

Carolyn Kurz is in St. Mary’s Hospital. She passed her stress test and will have a precautionary heart cath procedure today. Her family doctor told her she had had a heart attack but further tests indicate that probably was not the case. There might be some electrical issues with her heart, but that is yet to be determined. If the heart cath is OK she will go home today. If there are some blockages and she requires stints, then she will likely go home tomorrow. Please lift Carolyn up in your prayers.

Bertie Krausse is also having a heart cath procedure tomorrow at noon at St. Mary’s. Please pray for Bertie.

We now have three families that have requested special, confidential prayers. Please pray for these families. God certainly knows the situations.

We had a wonderful breakfast yesterday morning and the saddle bags are now being distributed. Please prayerfully consider your participation, complete your Estimate of Giving Card and pass the bag on. Congratulations to Tom Ireland’s group. That saddlebag route was completed in one day and it is now back at the church!

Special thanks to Thom Bushman and the Stewardship Committee. The breakfast was great and very well attended. The slide program was very impressive and the enthusiasm for this Extravagant Generosity Pony Express program is very high.

Please pray for our church as we move through our Saddlebag run and move rapidly into the busy, wonderful holiday season.

The scripture for today is Colossians 3:1-11:
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.
5Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).6On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. 7These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life.
8But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. 9Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices 10and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. 11In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
