Prayer for Today, Sunday November 20

God of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love,

Each year the holiday season interrupts the normal activities of our lives, often sooner than we expect, yet we are so thankful. As we celebrate Thanksgiving Sunday may we look ahead with eager anticipation to the Thanksgiving holiday, then Advent and Christmas. We are so blessed, loving God. May our blessing overflow to others during these holidays and may Your grace abound. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.

I received the following email from Kayte Anton:
“Yesterday morning we received the tragic news that my sister-in-law, Rebekah, died unexpectedly. She was 30 years old. We are devastated and very concerned for the well-being of my brother, Stephan, and their daughter, Emma. Our family needs to be lifted in prayer please.”

Please pray for Kayte’s family during this very difficult time.

Butch Phillips sent the following email:
“John, Not sure if you received my text messages yesterday regarding Linda Jones. She had a heart cath and is scheduled for a triple bypass Monday morning @ Bass Hospital. Dave says it's OK to share this information.”

Linda is well known in the Emmaus Community. Dave is the minister at Waukomis Christian Church. Please pray for Linda.

Birdene Schoonover appears to be in her last days. Please pray for Birdene.

Goldia Rasmussen had surgery to repair her broken leg. She is in St. Mary’s ICU 347. Please pray for our 103 year old member.

PLEASE JOIN US TODAY FOR WORSHIP, FELLOWSHIP AND A WONDERFUL LUNCHEON. IT IS THANKSGIVING SUNDAY.

The scripture for today is Philippians 3:2-11:
Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of those who mutilate the flesh! 3For it is we who are the circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and boast in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh— 4even though I, too, have reason for confidence in the flesh. If anyone else has reason to be confident in the flesh, I have more: 5circumcised on the eighth day, a member of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. 7Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ. 8More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but one that comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God based on faith. 10I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, 11if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

The Psalm for the week is Psalm 135:1-14:
Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; give praise, O servants of the Lord, 2you that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.
3Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to his name, for he is gracious.
4For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession.
5For I know that the Lord is great; our Lord is above all gods.
6Whatever the Lord pleases he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.
7He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.
8He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, both human beings and animals; 9he sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.
10He struck down many nations and killed mighty kings— 11Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan— 12and gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to his people Israel.
13Your name, O Lord, endures forever, your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.
14For the Lord will vindicate his people, and have compassion on his servants.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
