Prayer for Today, Sunday, November 6

O God,

This is Your day. May we keep it holy. This is You day. May we rejoice. This is Your day. May we gather to offer our worship, praise and thanksgiving.  This is Your day. May we respond to Your love with our generosity. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Did you feel the earthquakes Friday and Saturday nights? It was pretty amazing last night.

Welcome to daylight savings time.

Today we will gather for our All-Church Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. I hope to see you there.

Tonight is the last “Does God Exist?” until after the holidays. It begins at 6:00 p.m.

Please pray for our Extravagant Generosity Pony Express Run. May all our efforts be faithful and may they be pleasing to God.

The scripture for today is Colossians 2:20-23:
If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the universe, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations, “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch”?22All these regulations refer to things that perish with use; they are simply human commands and teachings. 23These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-imposed piety, humility, and severe treatment of the body, but they are of no value in checking self-indulgence.

The Psalm for this week is Psalm 28:
To you, O Lord, I call; my rock, do not refuse to hear me, for if you are silent to me, I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.
2Hear the voice of my supplication, as I cry to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary.
3Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who are workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors, while mischief is in their hearts.
4Repay them according to their work, and according to the evil of their deeds; repay them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward.
5Because they do not regard the works of the Lord, or the work of his hands, he will break them down and build them up no more.
6Blessed be the Lord, for he has heard the sound of my pleadings.
7The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
8The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
