Prayer for Today, Wednesday, November 9

O Lord of All of Life,

The leaves are turning. The temperature is colder. The air is crisp. It is a wonderful time of year and we give You thanks. Be with us, Loving God, as we look ahead to Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas. May we be intentional about pacing ourselves through the holidays so that we can spend quality time with family and friends; so that we can take “holy pauses” and appreciate the glory of creation; and, so that we can gather in  Your church for services of celebration, thanksgiving, and encounter. As we enjoy the holidays may we intentionally articulate our faith, the reasons we are Christian, and the reasons we are a part of Central Christian Church. Help us, Gracious God, to tell and celebrate the story of our experience of You. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.

Terry Jones died yesterday morning. His funeral will be in the sanctuary on Friday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m. We will serve a luncheon for the family at 12:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Please pray for all of Terry’s family and friends.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Betty Smith, Linda Kroeker’s mother. Betty also died yesterday morning. Her services will be a St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Friday at 2:00 p.m.

Carolyn Kurz is home after her recent hospitalization and heart cath procedure. Bertie Krausse is also home after her heart cath procedure. Please pray for Carolyn and Bertie.

I just received a call from Birdene Schoonover’s daughter. Birdene’s time at LTAC has run out so she is being moved to Greenbriar Nursing Home sometime today. She will be in Room 13. Needless to say, this move is very upsetting for Birdene. Please offer special prayers for her.

Alta Mae Birkenbile is also moving back to Greenbriar, possibly sometime today.

WWNF meets tonight. Chicken and noodles will be served for the meal. The Membership Committee is meeting at 5:30. The Elder’s study on Unbinding the Gospel that was to have concluded last week will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Bible study group and the Chancel Choir are also meeting at 6:30 p.m.  The Personnel Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. It will be a full evening of activities at Central Christian Church.

This Sunday is the first of two Mission Sundays. There will be numerous displays in the loggia.

All the Pony Express saddlebags are running along their routes. Two have already been returned to the office along with a number of mail responses. Please pray for the success of this grand venture.

The small prayer chapel will be open for ten more days. Please make the effort to come to the church to pray.

The scripture for today is Colossians 3:18-4:1:
Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly. 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is your acceptable duty in the Lord. 21Fathers, do not provoke your children, or they may lose heart. 22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only while being watched and in order to please them, but wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord. 23Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, 24since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ. 25For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong has been done, and there is no partiality.
4Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly, for you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
