Eternal God,
When the weather report warns of increased cold and the potential for freezing rain in the next forty-eight hours our thoughts turn toward those who lack adequate shelter and heat. Open our eyes, Loving God, to those who live in the shadows, those we normally do not see, and those whose needs are great. May we understand that Jesus is likely standing in the soup line, not in the jewelry department. It is in his name we pray. AMEN.

Please pray for Floreine Oltmans. She is receiving palliative care in Mercy Hospital after a massive stroke.
Pray for our church as we finish our stewardship drive and work on a budget for 2012. If you have yet to send in your Estimate of Giving card, please do so quickly. If you have that last saddle bag, please bring it to the church, and then pray for our leaders as they work diligently to be faithful with the resources entrusted to us.
I am still waiting to hear from Baylor. Needless to say, may frustration level is rising rapidly.
The scripture for today is Mark 1:21-28:
They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.”But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.
Grace and peace,
John McLemore
