God of Grace,
Today we pray for peace: in our hearts, in our families, in our church, in our community, and in our world. It seems that everywhere we look we see violence and unrest. Even as our troops are coming home from Iraq, there is more violence. We are concerned about the military in Afghanistan. In our own city there are numerous accounts of people seeking to hurt others. May Your spirit of peace abound, O God. Help us to understand that our words can be disrupt a peaceful climate. As we buy toys and games for our children and grandchildren, help us to choose wisely, avoiding those that portray violence toward others. Empower us to work for shalom in our hearts, O God, as we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace. AMEN.
