Prayer for Today, Saturday, February 25

Eternal God,

Why, O Lord, are we so contentious? Some days it seems as though we have devolved to a place where the manner of human discourse is reduced to 15 second sound bites and talking heads hotly debating various issues without a sense of decorum, stepping on each other's words. We easily divide everyone into the "we" and "them" categories. We only see life in black-and-white terms. Please forgive us, Generous God. As Christians, may we seek common ground. May we focus on those things that draw us together, not pull us apart. Help us, O Lord, to wipe out the lines of dirt and assume a posture of open arms. Thank you for reaching across the great chasm that separated humanity from you. Thank you for the gift of Jesus Christ, who shows us your love and shows us how to live with each other. It is in His name that we pray. AMEN.

Please continue to pray for our hospitalized, our homebound, and those we know who are battling disease.

Tomorrow is Youth Sunday. There will be an 8 AM Chapel service, but the two 10:15 AM services will be together in the sanctuary to be led in worship by our youth. Please support them with your attendance. We have OUTSTANDING young people of our church. The witness of your presence will be profound.

There is an Elders meeting tomorrow at 5 PM in the parlor. All Elders are encouraged to attend. It will last less than an hour so those who want to attend the "Does God Exist?" Class or go home to watch the Oscars will have plenty of time to do so.
