O Loving God,
We take public positions on a variety of issues. We espouse our views with passion. We embrace firmly held values. All of this is good, until we no longer make room for compassion. We live in a world where, too often, people draw lines in the sand. Please forgive us, Gracious God, when we are afraid to find common ground. Please forgive us, Eternal Spirit, when our egos overrule our hearts. Please help us, Holy One, to discern your will in all situations. This we pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
