Prayer for Today, Saturday, March 3

God of Tender Mercies,

Throughout the New Testament we read about Jesus’ conflict with the Pharisees. It is so easy, O Lord, to point our fingers at this group, yet we realize they were the faithful religious leaders of Jesus’ day. They were doing and acting according to their interpretation of You in their lives. Unfortunately, there understanding of righteousness seems to be limited to following laws and rules. They quickly condemned those who were deemed to be “unclean.” They were good at finger-pointing. Please forgive us, Loving God, when we let the Pharisee within us come out. May our faithfulness be expressed in actions that are motivated, not by rules, but by the heart. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.
