Timeless God,
So many of our efforts focus on those things we believe will bring us happiness and fulfillment, yet we never seem to reach these elusive goals. So we try harder. We fill our schedules with frivolous activities. We often fill our lives with frivolous people. Even so, our hopes grow dimmer. O Lord, please forgive our foolish ways. The paradox of the Christian faith is this: we received only that which we give away. May we follow the model of Jesus, caring for others, reaching out to marginalized, helping the sick, and stepping over the barriers that separate us from each other and You. Help us to know, Loving God, that happiness and a sense of fulfillment come only when we give ourselves in service to others in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
