Prayer for Today, Saturday, June 30

Holy God,

There is someone special in our lives whose influence has been life transforming. Help us, this day, to find ways to thank that person, be they family member, friend, co-worker, or mentor. Life is full of blessings and often we overlook the most profound and influential of those blessings because they come to us through another person. Please forgive our shortsightedness, loving God. May we be appreciative and grateful. May we also reflect on how our lives have influenced others. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
______

Please continue to pray for John Ingram, who is recovering from major surgery at St. Mary’s hospital.

Also continue to pray for Wendy Woelke and her continued recovery.

There is a special called board meeting tomorrow immediately after the 10:15 a.m. services. All board members are invited to come to the front of the sanctuary for this brief meeting.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore

Prayer for Today, Friday, June 29

Always Present God,

We thank You for Your love and grace that encourages us, sustains us, and gives us hope. May we open our hearts to You, Gracious God. May we truly seek to love You. The most beautiful moments of our lives are when we see You at work in our family, in our church and in our world. Help us, we pray, to be a part of Your reign, where the poor are lifted up, the sick are healed, swords are beaten into plowshares, and all stand equally before You. We trust in You. May Your blessings abound. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, June 26

Loving and Gracious God,

We humbly come to You in prayer. Our history with You reveals Your presence with us, even in the moments when we thought we were alone. You were there in the bright light of faithfulness and during the dark nights of the soul. It is often difficult for us to trust in You, Divine Presence. We mistakenly feel we must overcome our ills and challenges by ourselves. Please forgive our foolish ways. Help us, we pray, to feel Your presence and to trust in Your sustaining love. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.

We pray for our church and its mission. We pray for those who do not know Jesus Christ. Please send You Spirit to empower us, loving God, so that our prayers may be translated into deeds; where we care for family and friends; where we are actively involved in the mission of the church; and where we boldly share the Good News in word and deed so that other might come to know Jesus through us. I received the following email from Kayte Anton:
Hey John,
“I'm on the board of the Enid Farmers Market and this Saturday is one of our biggest events, GreEnid. We are in desperate need of volunteers. I thought this would be a great way to start the community outreach that we had talked about at Faith Leaders - the "Church Mob" at local events. Have people wear their church shirts and show community support.

Mainly we need help with the kids craft area. I need 5-8 volunteers.

-Saturday, June 23rd
-8-11am is the event
-Having volunteers there by 7-7:30 am would be helpful for set-up.
-All volunteers get an Enid Farmers Market t-shirt”

Prayer for Today, Saturday, June 16

God of Tender Mercies,

Sometimes, O Lord, we are overwhelmed by the harshness of life. We read and hear about violence in our homes, in our streets, and around the world. We watch talking head pundits and hear their aggressive sound bites, demonizing those who disagree with them. We look at people who should be statesmen and see them assume intractable positions rather than seek common ground. Please forgive us, Loving God, when we get swept up in such attitudes. We long for kinder and gentler spirits to prevail. Please empower us, Gracious One, to be agents of peace and reconciliation. May Your comforting and healing Spirit heal the divisions that have separated us from each other. May Your tender mercies prevail. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

O Holy One,

So often we take the Christian experience for granted. Please forgive us, Gracious God. Some of us were raised in the faith, others came to a relationship with God through Jesus Christ as older youth or adults. Help us to reflect on the question “Why are you a Christian?”. Please help us, Dear Lord, to find the words that express our experience of You. Then empower us to share those understandings with family members and friends who are not a part of the Christian community. Those outside the faith don’t want canned speeches or pat answers. They want to know about our experience. Please work through us, O Lord, so that others may come to know the Christ who dwells with us. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, June 12

God of Grace,

So many events in life beg the question “why?”. We see illness and disease devastate “good” people. We observe the success of many who use unscrupulous means. We are troubled when tragedy strikes the innocent. Sometimes we even question Your goodness in the face of overwhelming grief. Help us to understand, Dear God, that the rain falls on the just and the unjust. Being faithful and seeking to be good does not make us immune from the sorrow, grief, and tribulations of life. Help us also to know, Holy One, that You are bigger than our questions. You are with us throughout the journey, on the mountain tops and in the valleys. Please come to us when we are troubled with Your spirit of peace and comfort so that we can meet each day, whatever the circumstances may be. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
