Prayer for Today, Thursday, January 31

O God,

You heal the broken hearted and bind up their wounds. Please give us the strength and grace to care for those who are pushed to the margins of society and have no voice. The Old Testament prophets told of your judgment when the nation failed to care for the widows, orphans, and resident aliens. You are a compassionate and gracious God. Empower us to model the works of your son, caring for the dispossessed, seeking to reconcile communities, and putting an end to hatred between your people. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Tuesday, January 29

O Divine Presence,

Today, O Lord, we pray for our children and youth. A heavy responsibility is placed upon us as we teach, nurture, and witness to them. There are so many loud, competing voices in our culture vying for their attention and it seems as though the church is speaking only in a whisper. Help us to be bold, Dear God. So many homes have only one parent. Help us to be compassionate and supportive. There is so much violence around us in movies and games. Empower us to be voices of peace. Surround our children and youth with Your gracious and loving spirit, we pray, and give us the strength to model the Christian life to them. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
