Prayer for Today, Sunday, April 28

Loving God,

Here we are, coming to You in prayer in the midst of our foibles and crusty nature. Sometimes we can be stiff necked. Sometimes we can be hard hearted, yet Your love abounds. So often we build barriers to separate us from those who are “different”. Many times we harden ourselves to avoid being hurt. May the power of Your grace and the mystery of Your Presence melt away the walls. Come to us, we pray, and make our lives whole and loving. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Friday, April 26

Gracious God,

Help us to realize the impact of our words and deeds on others. When we are encouraging and positive, our words carry amazing power. Unfortunately, there is amazing power when the opposite is true as well. Please forgive us, Loving God, particularly when our words, phrases, or lectures cause others to lose interest in the church, question their participation, or leave entirely. May the words or our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to You, O Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Wednesday, April 17

Loving God,

Draw us, O God, into the depths of love, grace and faith. It is so easy to accept pat answers to life’s circumstances. May we realize that we are created as thinking people. It is a sin to check our brains at the door when we come to discuss Your presence in our lives. May we look at all situations with a critical eye and with profound curiosity. We are drawn close to You through our emotions. We are also drawn to You through our intellect. May we never neglect either avenue. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Sunday, April 14

Forgiving God,

In the first creation story in Genesis You created man and woman in your image at the same time. You also called creation “good”. In John 3:16 it states that “God so loved the world…” Forgive us, O God, when we diminish the power of these stories and live like we are in a forlorn state. We are created in Your image and we are loved by You. May we live as those loved and may we share that love with others. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
