Prayer for Today, Saturday, November 30

Giving God,

You pour so many blessings on us. In return You ask for our devotion and faithfulness. Please forgive us when we miss the mark, asking for more and giving less. May we approach Advent with contrite hearts and with eager anticipation. As we prepare, once again, for the celebration of Christ’s birth, may the mystery and beauty of the incarnation create in us a sense of awe. Help us to worship You joyfully, serve You with glad hearts, and share Your blessings with others. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

________

We continue to pray for Olive Traylor who is in Bass Hospital and Bertie Krausse who is in St. Mary’s Hospital. Olive will likely be moved to Tulsa next week.

The funeral for Bert Sims is today at 10:00 a.m. Please pray for Bert’s daughters and friends.

We need volunteers (particularly TALL volunteers) to come to the church today at 11:00 a.m. to decorate the sanctuary for Advent and Christmas. All are welcome. Last year we had a record turnout. It should take two hours or less and everyone will be pleased by the effort. PLEASE PASS THE WORD!

ADVENT DEVOTIONAL BOOKS are available at the Welcome Center. Cost to the church is $2.55. Please consider a donation  as you pick one up.

Tomorrow is the First Sunday of Advent. At 5:00 p.m. we will have our annual Service of Remembrance and Hope in the parlor. Holidays can be difficult times for those who are grieving. This brief service allows us to remember, share scripture and prayer, and light candles in memory of our deceased loved ones. If you are in that situation, then please join us.

The annual Hanging of the Greens service is tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. and the Tasting Party is immediately following  where our Sunday School  classes decorate tables and provide WONDERFUL holiday treats. Join your church family for this uplifting and fun way to kick-off the Advent/Christmas seasons.

Prayer for Today, Thursday, November 21

Most Holy God,

The cross is the everlasting symbol of Your love for all humankind. It has vertical and horizontal elements. May they serve as a reminder of our relationship with You. We continue to lift up our eyes to the heavens as we worship and praise You. The cross also reminds us of our relationship to those around us. It has been said that You are most profoundly experienced in the depth and breadth of human relationships. May we lift up our eyes in praise and adoration and may we also bring our eyes down to look into the faces of those in our midst, even the strangers. You are the God of all creation and we seek to honor You in our service to You and to our brothers and sisters. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Saturday, November 16

Steadfast and Loving One,

We pray for the church in all its manifestations. In our denomination we pray for the General Church, the Regional Church, and for the thousands of local congregations. Today we also pray for the church as it evolves into new possibilities, for those entrepreneurial ministers who are seeking to serve the poor and disadvantaged in new and creative ways. Bless their efforts, we pray. Help us  to think outside the box and consider ways we can be the church as the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. We offer this prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
