Prayer for Today, Friday, January 31

Author of Peace,

We come to You in prayer asking that You forgive us for our lack of trust in You. So often, Dear God, we place our trust in possessions, wealth, power and influence, but we still experience an emptiness within. Fill us, O Lord. Help us to know Your grace and help us realize You are the source of all that is. When we seek You first and trust You, then everything is put in proper perspective. We give You thanks and praise as we offer this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Saturday, January 25

O God of the Past, Present and Future,

We come humbly before You this day. As the cold wind and warming sun embrace us we become aware of the beauty and wonder of creation. You have blessed us, O Lord, with the ability to appreciate that which is around us. When we are down and discouraged help us to experience Your grace in the sunrise, in the magnificence of a clear sky, in the stately presence of an aged tree, or in the warm eyes of a favorite pet.
Forgive us, Creator God, when our vision is dulled by mindless routine. Open our eyes, that we might see Your visions of truth, beauty and love. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

O Giver of Life and Source of Peace,

We are surrounded, covered and undergirded by the mystery of Your Presence. Forgive us, O God, when we attempt to confine You to the limits of our understanding. Prayer for Today, Tuesday, January 21

Dear God,

Words and sentiments come to us easily, but actions do not. Jesus told his followers to show the world they were his disciples by the way they loved one another. The words easily roll off our tongues like, “We are a loving people”; “We are a friendly church”; “God loves you and I love you too”; but our actions often betray our words. Forgive us, O God, when we harden our hearts toward one another. Forgive us, Dear Lord, when we hurry past a stranger at church to greet a longtime friend. Forgive us, we pray, when we judge a person by their appearance and wonder what they are doing at our church. Forgive us, Loving Father, when we focus on the speck in our neighbors eye and fail to see the log in our own. You are the God of all people and You do love all those You have created in Your image. Help us to realize if we don’t love them in Your name, You will find others who will and we will be the ones saying, “Lord, when did we see you…”. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

Prayer for Today, Saturday, January 18

O God,

Words are easy. Deeds are often difficult. We say we want our church to grow. We bemoan the empty pews, but, in reality, we often say that is “someone else’s job”. You call us to make Disciples, O Lord. May we find ways to share the good news with our neighbors and friends and bring them to church. It is always a matter of relationships: ours with You, with our friends, and, ultimately, theirs with You. Use our actions, O Lord, as well as our words. We offer this prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Loving God,

We are so blessed. May we be a blessing to others. As we journey through this day, help us to see where a kind word, a gentle touch, a listening ear, or a helping hand may be needed and appropriate. Use us, O Lord, as the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
