Prayer for Today, Saturday, August 10

Gracious God,

We seek to know You, yet You are beyond our knowing. We seek to love You, yet You are mysterious and undefined. We seek to experience You, yet life trials thwart our efforts. Now we come to You with open minds and open hearts. Fill us, we pray. You are beyond definition. You are beyond our ability to understand, yet You are God. May Your divine mystery surround us and may we see a glimpse of Your glory in our midst. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Please pray for Bret Whinery’s family. His mother’s funeral is today at 10:00 a.m. in Sayre.

Max Johnson sent an email to the Crusader Class that I am forwarding: “This Sunday we will be listening to Fred Craddock and one of his Great Sermons.  This is a CD, not a DVD.  So we will just hear his voice.  Starting Sunday the 18th we will begin a series entitled, “Comparative Religion”  There will be 24 , 30 minute lessons taught by Professor Charles Kimball.  Professor Kimball is Presidential Professor and Director of the Religious Studies Program at the University of Oklahoma.  He received his Th.D. from Harvard University in Comparative Religion with specialization in Islamic Studies.  Dr. Kimball is an expert analyst on issues related to Islam, Jewish-Christian-Muslim relations, and the intersection of religion and politics in the United States.  He is the author of the highly acclaimed book “When Religion Becomes Evil.” Hope you will all come and listen to these lectures. The lectures will begin at 9:00am and give us some time to discuss the lecture. We have been having a great attendance in class and now that summer is over, we hope all will be able to return.  It was great to see Bill Buvinger in class this last week.  Please keep Bill in your prayers as he continues his medical procedures in the coming months. Max Johnson”

Mary Suzan Chambers sent the following email: “This Sunday in Genesis class: Our daughter in law once told me that she had a friend who was a Presbyterian and a Buddhist.   Is that even possible?  This Sunday, we will be having  “Buddhism 101”  Can one be a Christian  and a Buddhist at the same time?  Be there this Sunday and you decide for yourself.   Mary  Suzan   (your teacher for this week)”

We certainly have some great offerings for Sunday School. The Crusader Class meets upstairs next to the multi-purpose room. The Genesis Class meets in room 109. The Adult Bible Study Class meets in the parlor. The Sooner’s Class meets in the fellowship hall. The Young Adults meet in room 208 and the Boomer Class meets in room 202. All begin at 9:00 a.m. Try out a Sunday School Class.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
