Prayer for Today, Tuesday, May 21

O God,

Our prayer is for the victims, survivors, and rescues workers in Moore. May Your spirit of peace and hope sustain them. Help us use our energy, resources, and prayers to bring comfort and relief. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

_____

Below is an email from Dean Phelps, our interim Regional Minister: “Our eyes weep and our hearts break as news continues to come out of Moore. I know that you are joining me in prayer as this community once again experiences a devastating blow.

Because of the emergency situation, it is difficult to connect a phone call in or out. I have left email and a text message for Joe Wingfield, pastor at First Christian in Moore, letting know of our prayers and concern. At this point, our best response may well be to breathe prayers of hope.

I want you to know that both yesterday and today, as I was learning of the storms, I was also getting a call from Brandon Gilvin at the Week of Compassion, letting me know that they were standing by, ready to assist. One thing that your congregation can do to assist the community of Moore is to make a gift to Week of Compassion designated for the Moore tornado. You can make a donation online at www.weekofcompassion.org.

"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18 (NRSV)

Blessings,

Dean Phelps

Your Interim Regional Minister

One way we can respond is to make a gift to Week of Compassion. We will receive that offering on Sunday and then immediately send the money.

Another way to respond is to bring work gloves, rakes, shovels, brooms, bottled water, sunscreen, bug spray, trash bags, diapers of all sizes, wipes, formula, juice, power drinks.

There are drop off points in Enid. If you can’t find one of those, bring your items to the church and we will see that they will get to where they need to go.

Grace and peace,

John McLemore
